Mainly I felt I had to use this because there was no option offered that truthfully answered the question for me. The options that were available had none that pertained to me in the list, and I did not want to misrepresent myself by picking something not accurate about me. So if there's nothing accurate about me there in the available options I just put "don't want to respond". Only about 2 or 3 questions were really just a matter of keeping something to myself -- the rest were because you did not offer any options that were truthful answers for me to those questions.

I agree totally with braggindad about the new option. I think he is right on the money.
I also hope that most of the people who have responded are using this site for a dating service. If you are using this to make friends or penpals, most of the information asked should be irrelevant. I mean, do you base your friendships on how much someone weighs or what color eyes someone has? I hope not.
I propose that a special profile be made for those who want to only find friends. Choosing to not respond makes you seem untrustworthy, but the responses given promote unchristianly prejudice.

If I see someone use the "don't wish to respond" excessively, I just go on to the next profile. I feel the questions are asked to give those searching a better idea of who is on that profile. If the profilee doesn't wish to respond anything, they're only limiting their opportunities.

Glad to see this topic. I think that there is a better way.
It's my guess that generally 'don't wish to respond' is used when either it doesn't seem to be the time nor venue to share the info or there is not an appropriate answer among the choices. Both of these situations could be rectified with a 'let's discuss this later' or something of the like. I believe that if this choice was given, the other may not even be necessary.
I would have made good use of such an answer.
