I do think there is a greater ease for those that desire to hide something or trumpet strengths louder in all the types of distance communication.
On the other hand typing anything means my quick wit doesn't come out, if at all. I tend to come across rather much more serious in print than in person mostly due to the slightly more permanent conotation written things have.
People might be slow at the keyboard but not have that trouble with spoken interaction. The more removed from face to face the interaction the more laborious I find it is to communicate. I way over think anything in text, and slightly overthink what I say in a phone conversation. Only in face to face do I really relax. It is just my communication style.

Missy, i SUGGEST only that someone's reticence to communicate in open venue is POSSIBLY due to this, OR indicates an incompatibility in personalities (for me anyway). Someone hesitant to post online on open forums (as anonymous as it is...) because they are 'shy' or 'private' would have me observing carefully. Not once did i offer either opinion or conclusion this meant they were 'hiding' someone. Certainly raises this possibility, though.
You have the right to disagree, and i uphold that; but you are 'disagreeing' to something i did not claim...
nor did i suggest anyone was not a "good" person; just that this behavior would raise concerns which i would definitely assess carefully. I might also have truck with your first line "those are not people searching for practical/true mates"...
My presence on these social networking sites as such a 'heartseeker' on FaceBook for example does NOT preclude that I might be looking for a 'true, or practical' mate; further, i'll bet (just as you do, here) they ARE searching for what they BELIEVE is their "true mate", no matter where they look.
Projective identification is all about believing you have found that perfect mate...without realizing it is more a construct on your behalf. Probably happens MORE on these Christian sites (simply because people believe they are better able to choose well, and that the people here might be "better"; both dangerous assumptions).

I completely agree with you on the Facebook and Myspace opinion, those are people not searching for practical/true mates.
But your other opinion, that someone is "hiding" someone if they will not join a discussion on an open forum meaning they're hiding something I have to disagree with. There are many good people who are not hiding anything, but who are simply shy and have the preferance of a private chat to share their opinions and such.
